Note: The town office will be closed on Saturday May 26 and Monday May 28, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Town elections will be held June 12, 2012 along with
the state primary and referendum elections. The election will be held at the Community Center and polls will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Absentee ballots will be available at our office thirty days prior to the elections.
Nomination papers have to be returned by 12:00 noon on April 28th. Upcoming meetings:
Saturday May 5, 2012: Informational Meeting on Proposed Transfer Station Improvements, 11am to 12 noon at the Mount Vernon Community Center. The Board of Selectmen and the Transfer Station Committee will present a proposal to install 2 new Compactors at the Transfer Station, one for Solid Waste and one for Single Stream Recycling. They feel that this
proposal will save a significant amount of money, improve efficiency, increase recycling, and improve the entire Transfer Station experience. Please spend an hour to get informed on this important issue that will be on the Warrant for the June 16th Town Meeting.
Monday May 7, 2012: Board of Selectmen's Meeting, 6:30pm at the Town Offices. Mount Vernon Selectmen meet every other Monday.

Planning Board meets the 3rd Tuesday of every month.

ActivitiesNew Senior Center/Cafe:
Saturday May 5, 2012: Mount Vernon Community Center Fundraiser Dinner, 5:30pm - 7pm. Theme is 50s night with a live "Elvis" performance. Casseroles, Meat Loaf, Mac'n Cheese, Molded Salads, Ambrosia, Waldorf Salad, Tomato Soup Cake, Rice Pudding, Chocolate Cake, and more! Adults: $7, Children 5 and under: $3 Saturday May 19, 2012: Weeding at the Beach Day, 10:30am to 11:30am at the town beach on Minnehonk Lake. We'll be cleaning up around the 50 bushes and perennials that were planted along the lakeshore to stem erosion from entering into the lake and to discourage geese from “doing their thing” on our beach where our
children play. Bring your weeding tools and wear your dungarees and know you are helping your town. Organized by the Mount Vernon Community Partnership Corp. Every Monday and Wednesday at the Maranacook Middle School Cafeteria, from 9am to 11am.Tea, coffee, muffins, games/cards, and presentations provided.
